What we're about
Northstar MMA is a mixed martial arts gym on Tunghotel Road in Wat Ket, Chiang Mai. We opened on 25 October 2026.
We teach MMA and only MMA: striking, wrestling and ground fighting as one game. Our classes start with fundamentals, every time, so a complete beginner and an experienced fighter can train on the same mat and both get something out of it.
We are serious about training and relaxed about everything else. Sparring is controlled. Ego stays at the door. Some people train to compete one day; many train to get fit and learn a skill. Both are welcome.
Gato Studio BJJ
Northstar is the MMA sister gym of Gato Studio BJJ, our sister academy for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Chiang Mai, and the two gyms share coaches. Gato teaches the grappling in depth. Northstar puts it together with striking and wrestling.

Fundamentals first
Every class builds from the basics. All skill levels welcome means exactly that.
Look after your partner
You can't learn without a training partner, so we protect them. Controlled drilling, controlled sparring.
Turn up
Progress comes from training regularly, not from training hard once. Pick your days and keep them.
